Take a Walk Around Copenhagen
Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is a beautiful city that combines modernity with history. With its cobbled streets, colourful houses and charming canals. The city has a unique atmosphere that makes it one of the most popular destinations in Scandinavia. Exploring the centre of Copenhagen on foot is a great way to experience its charm and beauty.
On this walking tour we will take you to some of the most popular places in the city and give you an insight into its history and culture.
Our journey begins at the Rådhuspladsen, the main square in Copenhagen, also known as the City Hall Square. Here you will find the City Hall, a beautiful building completed in 1905. The building is an excellent example of the National Romantic style that was popular in Denmark at the beginning of the 20th century. The square is also home to several cafes and restaurants, making it a great place to start the day with a coffee.
From the City Hall Square we head to Strøget, one of the longest pedestrianised streets in Europe.
You will pass several historic buildings, including Our Lady’s Church and the Stork Fountain, built in 1894, as you walk along Strøget. Strøget is a great place to shop, people-watch and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the city.
We continue our journey to Nyhavn, one of Copenhagen’s most picturesque neighbourhoods. Nyhavn is famous for its colourful 17th century houses and charming canals. The area was once home to sailors and merchants, and its history is still evident in the many bars and restaurants that line the canals. Here you can take a boat trip or just relax and enjoy the scenery.
From Nyhavn we head to Amalienborg Palace, the official residence of the Danish royal family. The palace was built in the middle of the 18th century and is made up of four identical buildings arranged around a central square. Here you can watch the changing of the guard, which takes place every day at noon. For an insight into the life of the royal family, visit the Amalienborg Palace Museum.
Our next stop is the statue of the Little Mermaid, one of Copenhagen’s most famous landmarks. The statue has become a symbol of the city, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale of the same name. The statue is located on a rock in the harbour and you can enjoy the view of the harbour and the city from here.
After visiting the Little Mermaid, we head to the Kastellet, a star-shaped fortress built in the 17th century to protect the city from invasion. The fortress is still used by the Danish military but is open to the public. Kastellet is an excellent place to take a peaceful walk and enjoy the views over the harbour and city.
Our final stop is Tivoli Gardens, a popular amusement park founded in 1843. The park is renowned for its beautiful gardens, vintage rides and live entertainment. You can ride the rollercoasters, visit the aquarium or just enjoy the atmosphere of the park. Tivoli Gardens is a great place to end the day and relax after a long walk.
